Alberta Trophy Cougar Guided Hunts

Alberta Cougar hunting for non residents and residents alike is very well managed. Numbers harvested each year is strictly enforced and regulated. Allowing us to target quality Alberta Cougar. We start tracking well before day break which allows us time to sort and box the lions in as tightly as possible, to give the hounds the best odds to catch these elusive powerful predators. Once the track is boxed in as tightly by either truck or snowmobiles we will collar up the hounds with state of the art gps collars to track and determine when they have it treed . Once they have it held in the tree first a houndsmen will make there way in to  tie of dogs and make sure the Cougar is secure. Once this is confirmed we communicate with top of the line Radios to another guide/houndsmen to make his way in getting as close as possible with truck/snowmobile, before proceeding on foot with the client the rest of the way to the tree to harvest the Cougar. Seth takes great pride in his hounds who work hard for both him and the clients to successfully tree these Apex predators. If a Alberta Cougar has ever been on your bucket list don’t hesitate to contact us to make your dream into reality.

FAQs

Shot distance?

Typically the shot distance is 25-50 yards up in the tree. 60-75 would be rare.

Wound policy?

Draw blood policy. If you draw blood that is your animal. We will hunt that animal.

What's the country/terrain like? Do I need to be in good shape?

Obviously the better shape you can be in the better on yourself. but typically a guide will go into the Lion tree to tie off dogs and hold the lion. While another guide brings the client into harvest the animal. Only real rush is if darkness is coming. We will try to get as close as we can by either truck or snowmobiles. All the hounds are equipped with state-of-the-art tracking equipment.

What is a typical hunting day when hunting Lions with hounds?

Typically we are up early tracking in the dark under the LED lights. If a track is not located from trucks that Is but if not , we then sometimes search trails by snowmobile or quads to up the chances of locating a fresh lion track . If / once one is located we will do what’s called  “Box it in” which is do a perimeter by either truck or sled if possible to give us an idea how far it has travel . Mountain lions have big ranges and can travel a lot . We want to give the hounds the best chance to tree this mystical creature .

Typically what sizes of Lions can be expected?

We consider anything over 135lb a good lion going all the way to 175lb. Rarely 190lb but it can happen. Alberta is known for genetically some of the largest lions in weight and most importantly skull size. That’s what gets them in the book!

Are there any other predators we can target during the hunt?

Yes we have our fair share of coyotes and there is wolves but they are rarely seen. A wolf/coyote tag can be purchased when we get licenses. No trophy fees apply. Just a skinning fee if successful $100 for coyote or $500 for wolf.

what kind of accommodations should be expected during the duration of our hunt?

We will be staying in a cabin & when i say cabin I mean home away from home with all the luxuries of home hot showers, cozy beds, tv, wifi, home cooked meals, fresh coffee.
